15 best upcoming Android games — action, racing, strategy, and more

Call of Duty: Mobile - best upcoming Android games Activision

Fortnite, Stardew Valley, and Alto’s Odyssey are just a few of the great Android titles released in the last year. We expect to see many more in the near future from well-known developers like Nintendo, Gamevil, and Niantic.

Here are the 15 best upcoming Android games we’re most excited about, in categories like adventure, action, racing, and more.

1. Mario Kart Tour

Logo of Mario Kart Tour - upcoming Android games

Mario Kart Tour is a mobile racing game based on Nintendo’s classic kart racing series. It features simple controls anyone can get used to and offers 30 characters, 20 karts, and 10 gliders to choose from. You can compete in 16 cups, with each of them including four races.

You earn Grand Stars when you complete a race, with a maximum of five available in each one. When you gather enough Grand Stars, you get free gifts like emerald gems that can be used to unlock new drivers, karts, and gliders.

Nintendo has already launched the closed beta of Mario Kart Tour, which is only available in the U.S. and Japan at the moment. The game will officially be released this summer, which means somewhere between the end of June and September. 2. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Harry Potter Wizards Unite title - best upcoming Android games

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is an AR game created by Niantic, the same developer behind Pokémon Go. It’s an officially licensed property, so expect to see Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Buckbeak, and a bunch of other characters from the Harry Potter universe.

Your job is to solve the mystery of The Calamity and return Foundables to their rightful place.

The story of the game goes something like this: A calamity has struck the wizarding world, causing Foundables that include various artifacts and creatures to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world. Your job is to team up with witches and wizards from across the world and solve the mystery of The Calamity, return Foundables to their rightful place, and more.

The beta version of the game is already available in New Zealand, but there’s no word on when it will be officially launched. But since you can already pre-register for it on the Play Store, it likely won’t be long before it’s released.

3. Gears Pop!

Next up on our list of the best upcoming Android games is Gears Pop!, which is published by Microsoft and based on the company’s Gears of War franchise for Xbox. The title combines Gears characters with the art style of the popular Funko Pop figures.

Gears Pop! revolves around explosive real-time multiplayer battles in the Gears universe. However, you can also take on AI opponents in order to test out new strategies and squads. You can build your squad by collecting and upgrading iconic Gears of War heroes and villains — more than 30 of them are available in the game.

The title has already soft launched in a few countries, but there’s no word on when it will officially be released globally. In addition to Android, it will also make its way to iOS.

4. Minecraft Earth

Microsoft is also working on Minecraft Earth, a new AR mobile game for Android as well as iOS devices. According to the game’s website, players can build structures with other players and place them in the real world at life-size. You can build them with your friends as well as team up with others for mini-adventures.

Editor's Pick

Minecraft Earth also features many familiar mobs Minecraft fans will know and love, as well as a bunch of new ones. Players have the option to breed unique mob variants and use them to populate their builds. Minecraft Earth is a free-to-play title, with in-game items available for purchase.

The closed beta of the game will be released this summer, but there’s no word on when the full version will officially launch. You can already sign up for the beta via the button below.

5. Shadowgun War Games

This upcoming title from Madfinger Games is a competitive multiplayer shooter set in the Shadowgun universe. In addition to Android, it’s also coming to the Nintendo Switch and iOS devices.

Shadowgun War Games features heroes from across the series that take part in 5v5 Capture the Flag battles. Each character has unique weapons and abilities, and your job is to coordinate strategies with your teammates to win. The game is s presented as a fictional sport/game show taking place in an arena packed with action-hungry spectators — as shown in the trailer above.

An exact release date for the game has not been announced yet, but you can sign up for the closed beta on the developer’s website to try it out once it’s released.

6. Human: Fall Flat

Human: Fall Flat is a physics-driven puzzle game with platformer elements. It was first released on PC back in 2016 before making its way to consoles. Thanks to an agreement between the title’s publisher Curve Digital and 505 Games — known for games like the ARMA series and Payday 2 — Human: Fall Flat is coming to Android.

In Human: Fall Flat, you step into the shoes of Bob, an average guy with no superpowers or other extraordinary skills. The goal is to take Bob through his dreams, which are full of puzzles, dangers, and surprises. You’ll have to use various object to solve the puzzles, some of which are quite tricky.

Unfortunately, there’s no word on when the game will hit Android devices. And although this hasn’t been confirmed yet, it looks like Human: Fall Flat will be a premium game, meaning you’ll have to pay a few bucks to play it.

7. Forza Street

Microsoft’s Turn 10 Studios is adding a new game to the popular Forza series. Called Forza Street, it’s a free-to-play racing game that’s already available for Windows 10 devices and is coming to Android sometime later this year.

As you can tell by its name, the new game is all about street racing. Your goal is to win events, after which you get points to upgrade your cars or buy new ones to add to your garage. Unlike the Forza Motorsport series, Forza Street is aimed at casual gamers who want a more arcade-like experience.

You still have to put in lots of effort to win races, though. The game is all about timing: pressing the gas, brake, and boost option at the right moment is the key to overtaking opponents and finishing the race first. To learn more about the game, check out the short trailer above.

8. Call of Duty: Mobile

Call of Duty: Mobile is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter. The game will include at least five multiplayer modes — Free-For-All, Frontline, Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, and Domination — and seven maps, including Nuketown, Crash, and Hijacked.

Editor's Pick

The title will also feature a battle royale mode from day one, which will support up to 100 players per match. You’ll be able to play in first- or third-person and pick a class before each battle. There will be six of them available — Defender, Mechanic, Scout, Clown, Medic, and Ninja — each of which has its own ability and class skill.

The Call of Duty: Mobile closed beta is already live in a few countries, including India. Unfortunately, the developer has not yet announced when the game will be officially launched. It’s already listed on the Play Store, where you can sign up to get notified when it’s released.

9. Bad North

Bad North is a real-time strategy game with beautiful, minimalist graphics. You take on the role of a prince, whose island has been invaded by Vikings. Your mission is to fend them off with the help of an army that’s in your total control.

In Bad North, positioning is everything.

The game is all about positioning. You have to place your army at the right spots across the battlefield to come out on top. You also have to react quickly and know when to retreat to avoid defeat. Once you win a battle, you take on a new one on a different island, each of which has a unique layout.

Bad North is already available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. The developer says it will come to Android in 2019, but didn’t give a more specific timeframe.

10. H1Z1

H1Z1 is a battle royale game, similar to PUBG and Fortnite. You jump out of an airplane with up to 150 other players and start looking for guns, ammo, and other supplies once you land. Then it’s time to go on the hunt and take down as many opponents as possible. The last one standing wins.

The playzone gets smaller and smaller throughout the game, bringing players closer together and making sure you’re always on your toes. Just like in PUBG, there are vehicles available so you can get from place to place faster. You can play solo or team up with one or even four other players.

H1Z1 isn’t as popular as PUBG or Fortnite, but it still has millions of devoted fans. It’s free to play and available on PS4 and PC. The company has confirmed a mobile version is in the works, but there are no details on when it’s coming.

11. Project Cars GO

Project Cars Go title upcoming Android games

Project Cars, a popular racing game on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, is getting a mobile spin-off. Called Project Cars GO, it will come with loads of exotic cars and tons of customization options, just like the PC and console versions.

Project Cars is known for an authentic racing experience, and the mobile version promises just that. The game has sold over two million copies worldwide so far and is one of the best of its kind in my opinion.

Read next: 15 best racing games for Android

Gamevil and Slightly Mad Studios are developing the game, but there’s no word on the release date. Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell said racing fans will be “stomping the gas pedal and burning rubber very soon,” which makes us think it won’t be long until Project Cars GO makes its debut. When it does, it will give all the other titles on our list of best upcoming Android games a run for their money.

12. Diablo Immortal

Back in November, developer Blizzard Entertainment announced it’s working on Diablo Immortal, its second mobile game. The title is being developed from the ground up, so it’s not a port of a previous Diablo PC or console game.

Read next: The Diablo Immortal outrage from both sides of the fence

The storyline takes place between the events of Diablo II and III. The Archangel Tyrael is believed to be dead, while the Worldstone has been shattered into various fragments. Those Worldstone segments are the source of new and ancient evil creatures who want to use the stone’s power to take over the land.

The game lets you choose from six classes (Barbarian, Monk, Wizard, Crusader, Demon Hunter, and Necromancer), with each one having a set of at least 12 skills. You’ll be able to explore and fight in nine outdoors areas and will come across a lot of creatures never seen before in a Diablo title. The game is already listed on the Play Store, but an official release date has not been announced yet.

13. Levelhead

Butterscotch Shenanigans, the developer behind the popular Crashlands game, is developing a new title called Levelhead. This 2D platformer lets you build your own levels and publish them for everyone to play. You can use more than 60 elements to get the job done, including enemies, hazards, paths, switches, secrets, power-ups, and more.

It’s a cross-platform game, so levels created on Android will work on PC and iOS, and vice versa. Up to four people can play a level at once, or even create levels together. If you’re not into that, the single-player campaign lets you take control of GR-18 — a delivery robot in training.

Based on the short trailer (above), Levelhead looks like a lot of fun if you’re into platforming games. It’s coming to PC, iOS, and Nintendo Switch, in addition to Android.

14. Impossible Bottles

Impossible Bottles upcoming Android game

Impossible Bottles is described as a rhythm game. You take on the role of a genius inventor who wants to provide an endless source of energy to the world with the help of his machines — from tiny robots to enormous golems.

To get the job done, you have to power the robots by firing streams of electricity in sync with the music. You can check out what this looks like by clicking here. But be careful: even a small mistake regarding the musical rhythm could create a global blackout and destroy the robots. The game features 10 hand-drawn robots, easy single-tap gameplay, and original electronic tracks to go along with each machine.

According to the game’s website, Impossible Bottles will be released in the summer of 2019, which means somewhere between the end of June and September. There are no details whether it will be a free-to-play title or not.

15. Payday: Crime War

Already a popular first-person shooter on PC and consoles, Payday is coming to Android. Payday Crime War is a multiplayer, team-based PvP title. One team takes on the role of criminals trying to perform a robbery. The other team steps into the shoes of a SWAT team trying to prevent the crime.

Editor's Pick

Up to eight players can play in a match, which can happen in different locations. As you progress through the game, you can get new weapons and additional abilities to step up your game.

Overkill Software set up a website for the upcoming game, claiming it’s coming soon. An exact date has not been shared with the public yet. However, the developer is already testing out the game with a closed beta program, which hopefully means it won’t be long before it’s released.

Justice Department eyeing antitrust case against Google

An image of Sundar Pichai at Google I/O 2019

Google is said to be the target of a new Justice Department investigation, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.

The antitrust division of the Justice Department has put together the basics needed to form an investigation, say sources familiar with the agency’s plans. The move would put the search giant’s business practices under the microscope and could spell trouble for its multitude of business units. In addition to its main search business, Google offers a wide range of products and services, including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Android.

Google no stranger to investigations

In 2013, the Federal Trade Commission concluded a similar probe into Google’s behavior. At the time, the FTC deemed it the company hadn’t broken any laws. Even so, Google voluntarily made some changes to the way it ran select business units to appease investigators. The Justice Department and FTC only recently agreed which of the two agencies, which share antitrust duties, would pursue the new investigation into Google.

Google is a frequent target of the European Commission. In March, the E.U. fined Google $1.7 billion over “abusive” online ad strategies. In July 2018, the E.U. socked Google with a $5.1 billion fine over Android antitrust concerns.

The timing of the new investigation comes after some in the U.S. government have called for large tech firms to be broken up.

In March, Sen. Elizabeth Warren suggested companies such as Google and Facebook be pulled apart. Specifically, she believes mergers and acquisitions have given these companies too much power.

“Current antitrust laws empower federal regulators to break up mergers that reduce competition,” she wrote in a post on Medium.

Neither the Justice Department nor Google immediately responded to requests for comment, and the exact nature of the probe is unknown. For example, it’s unclear if the Justice Department has yet contacted Google about the potential investigation.

Android Authority will provide more details about the investigation once they are made available to the public.

Report: The US is investigating Google for antitrust violations

What you need to know

  • Antitrust investigation by the Justice Department will focus on search platform.
  • Google has faced multiple fines from EU in recent years for similar actions.
  • A previous investigation in 2013 led to voluntary changes from Google.

Alphabet Inc.'s Google subsidiary is reportedly the target of an antitrust investigation by the US Justice Department, according to the Wall Street Journal. The full report is behind a paywall, but the summary notes that Google will be scrutinized for its dominating search platform and other businesses.

Google has been under a bit of pressure in this area, particularly in the EU. The EU has leveraged several fines against Alphabet Inc., including a whopping 4.34 billion euros (4.86 billion dollars) penalty for blocking rival software on its dominant Android platform. The EU is also investigating Alphabet Inc. for practices pertaining to local search results and Google Adsense, both of which maintain dominant positions in their respective markets. The EU is reportedly also investigating Google's mapping technologies, among other things, potentially preparing further antitrust cases against the search giant.

In the late 90s, Microsoft was famously slapped by the US Department of Justice and the EU for its own antitrust violations, which led to the "Choose your browser" pop-up in older operating systems, alongside a range of other rules Microsoft had to follow.

If the US Department of Justice finds that Google has been unfairly leveraging its dominant positions in search and other businesses to stifle competition, it could lead to severe consequences for the tech giant.

The ASUS Zenfone 6 is a surprise flagship at a surprisingly low price

Last year's Asus Zenfone 5Z was an excellent phone with great hardware and an even better price point. The Zenfone 6, however, takes everything its predecessor did well and ups the ante with a wholly original design, powerful hardware, and a motorized flip-up camera, all while starting at $499 like the 5Z.

This all-screen beauty represents the greatest that 2019 has to offer, even sporting the absolute best version of ZenUI yet, a back-to-basics, "stock+" Android experience with Asus's own tweaks and modifications.

Dropbox improves its paid subscription plans with more storage and new features

I've been a huge Dropbox fan since 2009 and never even considered switching to another solution ever since. Back then, I was using a Linux netbook at school and needed to sync my files and notes back to my "actual" computer, and Dropbox was one of the very few cross-platform solutions available back then. Today, I still need to access my files across devices, but even though there are many more options on the market, I really enjoy Dropbox's advanced features, especially because they keep getting better.

#TBT: 8pen is Just as Painful in 2019 as It Was in 2010

If you have been following Android for a while, then maybe you’ll remember 8pen. The app was a keyboard replacement, but unlike Swype or SwiftKey, 8pen was a complete reimagining of what we know as a keyboard.

8pen used gestures and swipes for input, and after trying it for 10 minutes, I quickly realized that I didn’t want to relearn how to type. Considering the app never took off, it’s safe to assume that is what most people felt.

We’ve actually done a #TBT post about 8pen before, back in 2016, but at that time, there was no downloadable 8pen experience. That changed in late 2018, when an app called Vi8 was launched as an “Unreleased” app on Google Play. It’s still there today, and with it, you can experience what we went through back in November, 2010.

I will say, it’s brutally difficult to use. From what I’ve gathered after 5 minutes of frustration, the center circle is your space bar. Hold down your finger in the center, then with swiping motions with your finger, circle the letters you want to make out a word. When a word is complete, let go. Then tap the center for space, then start all over again on the next word. It’s a blast from the past that will surely kick your ass.

Could you see yourself using this keyboard in 2019? I still think it looks exceptionally cool, just not very practical considering the effort it takes to learn how to use it.

Google Maps Can Now Show You Photos of Popular Dishes at Restaurants

I heard a long time ago that if you go to a restaurant and there are pictures of food on the menu, don’t expect anything life changing to come out of that kitchen. In direct opposition of this, Google is making an effort to turn restaurant menus into a very visual experience. Earlier this week, they announced that Google Lens can recognize dishes on a menu, then show you photos of the dishes.

Today, the Google Maps team is announcing something similar. The new feature is called Popular Dishes, which uses machine learning to recognize what dishes people are talking about in their reviews of any particular place. As you look up a new place to eat on Google Maps, the app can show you photos of those popular dishes.

Simply pull up a restaurant on Google Maps to find its popular dishes in the overview tab. Feeling extra peckish? Dive into the menu tab to scroll through all the most-talked about meals, and tap on a popular dish to explore reviews and photos. In a country where you can’t read the language? Maps will also translate the reviews for you too.

Google says the feature is available right now for users on Android, while those with an iOS device will have to wait a while for it to come.

Not Back: Galaxy Note 10 Reportedly Ditches Headphone Jack, All Buttons

Galaxy Note 9

It never fails, guys. This never-ending saga of the world hating Kellen by providing the opposite of what I hope will happen, continues. Just this morning, I talked about how the smartphone world appeared to be warming back up to the idea of the headphone jack again, since we have seen the majority of phones feature one this year. And now, hours after that write-up, we get a report suggesting that Samsung is killing the 3.5mm port in the upcoming Galaxy Note 10. I mean, lol.

A rumor shared by Android Police says that Samsung will finally follow the 2016 trend of eliminating a popular port from its Galaxy Note line. Not only will the Note 10 lack a headphone jack, but there will be no buttons on the device either.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that the Note 10 might ditch physical buttons for touch sensitive areas. This is the first time since last October that we’ve heard again that there might not be a 3.5mm port.

The report also suggests that there will be two models of the Note 10, a smallish version alongside a bigger version. We’ve heard this before too.

Assuming this is true, Samsung deciding to kill the headphone jack is a sad scenario to consider. As the biggest smartphone maker in the world, continuing to keep that port in their best phones while also continuing to improve on design and features proved that the excuses for leaving it out were bogus. Displays and batteries have gotten bigger in Samsung phones, they’ve added more cameras, and high levels of water resistance remains, yet they didn’t need to cut like others have.

As for the no-button setup, well, HTC proved that to be a terrible thing on multiple levels. Good luck, Samsung.

Silly Name and US Unavailability Aside, the $245 Meizu 16Xs Looks Impressive

Meizu, a company we hardly ever discuss because their phones are not readily available in the US, has me wishing just a little bit that America and China were getting along. With pre-orders up in certain markets and priced at around $245 is the Meizu 16Xs, a budget smartphone that looks like something not made for a budget.

The phone features a 6.2″ Samsung-made AMOLED display, Snapdragon 675 processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB storage, 4,000mAh battery, tripe rear-facing camera setup (featuring a 48-megapixel shooter), in-display fingerprint reader, and some sweet backside color options.

While you can find a few Meizu devices on Amazon, this phone is not scheduled to launch in the US. You’ll be able to find it in some Asian and European markets, but for us in the US who always want more options, it shan’t be coming. And again, this is a $245 phone. If the camera setup is even somewhat decent, those specs speak for themselves. It looks like a solid phone.

Who do we have to elect in 2020 to get some Meizu, Huawei, and other Chinese OEM action in the US?

Sprint Launches Mobile 5G Network in 4 Markets

Sprint 5G Cities

Sprint’s mobile 5G network goes live today in four markets: Atlanta, Dallas-Forth Worth, Houston, and Kansas City. In the coming weeks, Sprint says it will also launch in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, and Washington DC. Once those nine markets are lit up, the 5G network should cover around 11.5 million people.

What’s important is the type of 5G network Sprint is launching. Unlike Verizon’s mmW network, for example, Sprint is using mid-band spectrum, combining both 4G LTE and 5G in what’s called dual-connectivity. In doing so, Sprint is able to get 5G out to a broader area and to more people in less time. However, the speeds probably won’t be the same as what you would see from a 5G mmW site.

As Sprint details, “At the foundation of Sprint 5G is Massive MIMO, a breakthrough technology that dramatically improves network capacity. Sprint is using 64T64R (64 transmitters 64 receivers) 5G Massive MIMO radios from Ericsson in Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Kansas City. These radios support split-mode, enabling Sprint to simultaneously deliver LTE Advanced and 5G NR service. Sprint’s 5G Massive MIMO radios run on its 2.5 GHz mid-band spectrum, and they are deployed on Sprint’s existing 4G cell sites, providing a nearly identical footprint for both 2.5 GHz LTE and 5G NR coverage.”

Sprint’s First 5G Markets

  • Atlanta: Sprint 5G covers approximately 150 square miles and 565,000 people from downtown to Dunwoody!
  • Dallas-Fort WorthSprint 5G covers approximately 575 square miles and 1.6 million people across the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area serving Irving and downtown Fort Worth, including Sundance Square, Las Colinas, and the North Dallas area from Preston Hollow to Addison.
  • HoustonSprint 5G covers approximately 165 square miles and 800,000 people across the cultural center of Houston from downtown to Memorial City Mall/City Centre Plaza.
  • Kansas City: Sprint is the first wireless operator to launch 5G in its hometown, with service covering approximately 225 square miles and 625,000 people from downtown Kansas City, MO, to Overland Park, KS where the company is headquartered.

And just because you may be in an area where 5G now exists, that doesn’t mean your phone is going to automatically pull faster download speeds. You need a compatible device. Currently, Sprint is advertising the LG V50 ThinQ (available in retail stores tomorrow), HTC’s 5G Hub, as well as the Galaxy S10 5G (launches this summer).

If you’re on Sprint and live in one of these areas, let us know if you plan on picking up a 5G-capable device. We want to see some speed tests!

Is the Headphone Jack Back?

Pixel 3a

It took “courage” from Apple to start us down the headphone jack-less path in 2016. Motorola wasn’t far behind them. Google followed their leads in 2017’s Pixel 2 by suggesting USB-C and digital audio were better audio. OnePlus joined the party in 2018 after ribbing competitors for years for ditching 3.5mm ports. All signs from the past three years suggested that the 3.5mm port was only a couple of random sightings away from becoming extinct. Something seems to have changed, though.

Is the headphone jack back?

For 2019, we’ve seen a lot of headphone jacks. Samsung’s entire Galaxy S10 line-up has them. The LG G8 has one, with a Quad DAC to boot. Huawei’s P30 has one (the P30 Pro does not). The mid-range Pixel 3a and 3a XL have them. And now the Moto Z4 has one, even as Motorola was one of the original 3.5mm killers. So far in 2019, it’s more rare to not have a headphone jack than it is to have one.

When the initial cuts began to happen, we heard a lot of excuses reasons for doing so. Companies needed to make room for more battery or they wanted to trim bezels, so they left out the headphone hole. If we were going to get to an all-display world with the slickest designs, something was going to be removed and it happened to be the 3.5mm port. But as we have seen in 2019, those reasons weren’t exactly true.

The Galaxy S10 line is as all-display as it gets, with almost zero bezel and the biggest batteries for the Galaxy S to date. The Moto Z4 is still stupid thin, with its largest display, and a whopping 3600mAh battery. The Pixel 3a and 3a XL have bigger batteries than the Pixel 3 and 3 XL. All of these phones found room.

And look, Google admitted when they released the Pixel 3a that headphone jacks are important because “a lot of people [already] have headphones.” They acknowledged that flexibility for customers is a good thing and that forcing you to go out and buy additional digital headphones (probably) isn’t necessary. In other words, the space excuse was never a real excuse, they all just wanted to match Apple’s courage.

So is the headphone jack back? We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the 2nd half of 2019, but you can almost bet with certainty that the Galaxy Note 10 will have a 3.5mm port (maybe not!). Will the Pixel 4? That might be the true decider over whether or not we can point fingers at all of these companies and say, “Hah ha, you were wrong.”

Moto Z2 Will Get 5G Moto Mod Access Later This Summer

Moto Z2 Force

The Moto Z2 Force, as old as it is, will get access to 5G, thanks to the 5G Moto Mod that provides it to the Moto Z3 and Z4. Motorola announced the news today alongside its unveiling of the Moto Z4.

How can a 2-year old phone that runs a Snapdragon 835 possibly find 5G connectivity. In case you forgot, the Snapdragon 835 is the same chip that’s in last year’s Moto Z3 and it’s able to use the 5G setup within the 5G Moto Mod to connect to Verizon’s new 5G network. It’s actually not that surprising to learn that Motorola can make this work.

A specific date for Moto Z2 5G access wasn’t given, but Motorola tells us to expect it to arrive this summer. Once that arrives, Motorola will have three phones capable of accessing Verizon 5G.

Moto Z4 is Official at $499.99, Keeping the Moto Mod Dream Alive

Moto Z4 Official

Some dude may have ordered a Moto Z4 on Amazon before Motorola got around to announcing it, but things are now official. The Moto Z4 is here!

What should you know? It’s the 4th generation Moto Z device, works with all of the currently available Moto Mods, will get 5G support through the 5G Moto Mod, and brings back the headphone jack. It sports a 6.4″ full HD OLED display, Snapdragon 675 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB internal storage (with SD support), and a 48MP rear camera that pixel bins down to 12MP. You’ll find a 3600mAh battery with fast charging, an optical in-display fingerprint reader, and support on all major US carriers.

The Moto Z4 features a Night Vision in the camera, the clean Android software experience we all love from Motorola (it’s Android 9 Pie too), and a battery that Motorola says should last at least 2 days. The display stretches edge-to-edge with only a front camera notch in the way and the back utilizes 2.5D curved glass to give a better in-hand feel than previous Moto Z phones.

Speaking of previous phones and Moto Mods, Motorola is keeping them alive, but just barely. Moto doesn’t have any new Mods to announce alongside the Moto Z4, so if you didn’t find it necessary to own any of the old ones, nothing is going to change for 2019. With that said, if you do own Moto Mods from previous Moto Z years, they’ll all work here. They may not fit that well because of the slightly curved backside, but they’ll work.

The Moto Z4 will go on sale June 6 as an unlocked unit for $499.99 at Best Buy, B&H Photo, and Amazon. At that price, Motorola is tossing in a free Moto 360 Moto Mod. Pre-orders open today.

Verizon will sell the Moto Z4 on June 13 for a limited time price of $240 with new lines. Everyone else at Big Red will pay the unlocked price. Want the 5G Moto Mod from Verizon? It’s still available for $199.99.
