When it comes time to apply for your first premium-ish rewards card, the American Express® Gold Card shouldn't be ignored. In fact, TPG senior contributor Ethan Steinberg says that he's even more loyal to his Amex Gold now during the pandemic.
The Gold Card has an annual fee of $250 (see rates and fees), which is effectively $30 when you factor in its monthly statement credits at select restaurants and its airline fee credit.
It has relevant bonus categories such as global dining and U.S. supermarkets, plus it earns valuable American Express Membership Rewards points. Let's dive into why else the Amex Gold is a great card to consider, and who should and who shouldn't get the Amex Gold Card.
Key benefits
The annual fee on the Gold Card is $250 (see rates and fees) — and it's not waived for the first year. To compensate, the card offers up to $220 in annual statement credits.
This breaks down to an up to $100 annual credit for airline incidentals (not valid on airfare, only on charges like seat assignment, bag fees and lounge access) and a up to $10 a month (up to $120 a year) dining credit at participating locations such as Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Boxed, and participating Shake Shack locations. The bonus categories are also impressive, earning:
- 4x points at restaurants worldwide
- 4x points at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $25,000 in spending per calendar year; then 1x point)

Who should get the Amex Gold card?
People who spend a lot on dining and U.S. supermarkets
Statement credits are a great way to offset a high annual fee on a credit card, but you don't apply for a new card to break even. You do it to get ahead.
The 4x bonus categories on worldwide dining and on U.S. supermarket purchases (up to $25,000 per calendar year; then 1x for U.S. supermarket purchases) amount to an 8% return, based on TPG's valuation of Membership Rewards points at 2 cents each. It almost goes without saying that people who spend heavily in these categories will get the most value out of this card.
The Amex Gold is not the first credit card to offer bonus categories on dining worldwide and at U.S. supermarkets, but it might be the most valuable one. Four Membership Rewards points per dollar beats out the 3x Ultimate Rewards points on dining offered by the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
It's possible to end up with a slightly higher return on purchases at U.S. supermarkets by using the Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card from American Express, but the bonus categories on the Gold Card don't require you to jump through any hoops, such as a minimum number of transactions per month to earn the highest rates. This card doesn't have any foreign transaction fees if you decide to travel with it (see rates and fees).

People looking to complete the Amex trifecta
The two biggest weak spots in the Amex Gold Card's bonus categories (travel and everyday spending) can be easily fixed by pairing it with two other strong Amex cards: The Platinum Card® from American Express or The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express.
No matter how much money you spend on dining and groceries a year, you'll likely want to combine multiple cards into the Amex trifecta to maximize your bonus-category earning.
If you combine these three cards and use each one for its bonus categories, you'll end up earning anywhere from 2-5x points, or 4-10% back on nearly all of your purchases. And these cards really fit together like puzzle pieces, with the Amex Platinum providing luxury perks, such as lounge access and hotel elite status, that the Gold Card doesn't, and the Blue Business Plus elevating your base earning rate on non-bonus spending from 1x to 2x (on the first $50,000 in eligible purchases each calendar year; then 1x) without costing you a penny in annual fees (see rates and fees).
People who can max out the $220 in annual statement credits
One of the toughest things for many new points enthusiasts to wrap their heads around is the value of a premium credit card. No matter how much personal value you get out of some of the perks, you still end up paying well over $100 a year out of pocket for the right to use them — often paying $450 or more up front before you begin to get reimbursed by statement credits.
The Amex Gold makes that math much simpler if you can max out both of its annual statement credits.
Although the up to $100 annual airline incidental credit can't be directly applied to the cost of a ticket, you can use it for things such as change/cancellation fees, lounge day passes, seat assignment fees or checked bag fees.
The up to $120 dining credit is broken down into $10 a month, similar to the Uber credit that comes with the Amex Platinum, but it also is pretty easy to maximize. I can't think of a single purchase at any of the partner dining merchants (Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Boxed and participating Shake Shack locations) that would cost lessthan $10 a month, so if you eat out or order in once every 30 days this should be easy to take advantage of.
If using up the airline fee credits and the dining credit sounds like something you can do, you'll effectively end up paying $30 a year to keep the Amex Gold, making it one of the cheapest cards relative to the benefits it offers. And it should be easy to earn back that last $30 by taking advantage of one or more Amex Offers, where you can earn discounts on purchases you likely would have made already.
People who are over 5/24 with Chase
Whether you have years of established credit or are new to the points world entirely, we at TPG almost universally recommend that you start by applying for Chase credit cards because of the pesky 5/24 rule. Simply put, this rule means that you will be automatically rejected for most Chase cards if you've opened five or more credit cards in the last 24 months.
The question of what you should do after you've maxed out your five slots with Chase gets a little trickier, but the Amex Gold could be a great answer. Not only will you immediately begin earning a valuable transferable points currency, but the 4x bonus categories will help you earn your free vacation even faster.
I also believe that having access to multiple types of points makes all of your points more valuable, as it gives you more options to pick from for any specific trip you want to take. For certain Star Alliance redemptions, being able to pick between Aeroplan (transferring Amex points) or United (transferring Chase points) could end up saving you hundreds of dollars or thousands of miles.
People targeted for a 50,000-point bonus
The public welcome offer on the Amex Gold is currently 35,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months, but some readers have reported being targeted for a higher bonus of 50,000 points on the Amex website through referral links (offer subject to change at anytime) and through CardMatch.

Since Amex has a "once per lifetime" policy with welcome offers, it always makes sense to see if you can get a higher offer. Those extra 15,000 points would add $300 in value to your bonus, making your total haul worth $1,000.
Who shouldn't get the Amex Gold card?
The Amex Gold has the potential to be a very lucrative card, but there are several groups of people who might struggle to get good value from it.
People who are under 5/24
As mentioned above, Chase's 5/24 rule is one of the most important considerations in building a starter strategy for credit cards. Five cards can seem like a lot to someone who has never even had one before, but those slots go by quickly and once you've used them up, you might never get them back.
The Amex Gold is going to be around for a while, so there's no reason to fire off an application for it right now, especially if it means compromising your strategy with Chase.
There are at least three Chase credit cards currently offering bonuses worth $1,000 or more based on TPG valuations or the cost of redemptions through Chase Ultimate Rewards — the Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. The value of the Amex Gold welcome bonus is $700. If you want to get this card at some point, make a mental note but don't get impatient and throw away your whole strategy.

People who live outside the U.S.
If you're outside the U.S., that means the 4x at U.S. supermarkets (on the first $25,000 each calendar year; then 1x) and the up to $120 dining credit do you no good. In fact, if you live outside the U.S., this card is much less valuable. The other perks, such as 3x on flights and an up to $100 credit when booking through the Amex Hotel Collection, can easily be overshadowed by other premium rewards cards.
People who won't max out the statement credits
The up to $100 airline incidental credit can be easy for some people to use, but it's not as easy as it has been in the past because airline gift cards are no longer triggering the credit and the up to $120 dining credit might be tougher to use if you enjoy cooking at home or don't eat at any of the partner restaurants. Ordering delivery just to use the free $10 credit might end up costing more than it saves.
If that's the case, you're left with a card that might cost you more out of pocket than the ultra-premium cards such as the Amex Platinum and Chase Sapphire Reserve.
You're left footing a larger bill and getting fewer perks in return, as the Amex Gold doesn't offer any form of lounge access, elite status or even a Global Entry/TSA PreCheck application fee credit (up to $100).
People who've previously had an Amex Gold card
I personally appreciate Amex's rule on bonus eligibility. It's easy to understand that if you have previously earned the bonus on a credit card, you will not be eligible to earn it again.
Although the Amex Gold underwent a heavy makeover, it is still technically the same product that was known as the Premier Rewards Gold Card. This means that people who previously have had the old version will not be eligible for a bonus on the new product even if the old card has been closed.
People who want travel coverages and primary rental car insurance
The Amex Gold card isn't one of the best credit cards with travel protections. For example, the rental car insurance you get with the card is secondary, which means it only applies to expenses not covered by other insurances you have. On top of that, the card also doesn't have any trip delay or trip interruption coverage.
Now, compare that to the Chase Sapphire Reserve, which provides primary rental car insurance when you pay for the entire rental with your card (or with Chase Ultimate Rewards points) and decline the rental company's collision coverage.
The Sapphire Reserve also has amazing trip-delay protection: When you pay for at least part of your fare with the card you can have eligible expenses (up to $500 per ticket) reimbursed if your travel is delayed for six hours or more or requires an overnight stay. Eligible purchases that can be reimbursed with this coverage include lodging, transportation, toiletries, clothing or food expenses you incurred as a result of the delay.
Bottom line
The Amex Gold is a valuable option for U.S.-based customers who spend heavily on dining and groceries at U.S. supermarkets and are looking for an in-between, "premium-lite" card that offers good returns without an obscene price tag.
If you can max out all the benefits this card has to offer, it might become a cornerstone of your wallet. But if you live or frequently travel outside of the U.S. or can't max out both of the annual statement credits, stop and think about whether this is the best card for you.

OnePlus reclaims the throne in India’s premium smartphone market
- OnePlus has reclaimed the top spot in India’s premium smartphone market, according to estimates.
- It still faces stiff competition from Apple and Samsung.
- The OnePlus 8 is also India’s most popular high-end handset.
OnePlus has taken back the lead in India’s hotly contested premium smartphone market, according to an estimate — if only just.
Counterpoint Research has determined that OnePlus just edged past Samsung to claim the most market share for premium (over Rs 30,000 or $400) phones in the second quarter of 2020, snapping up 29% of the space versus just under 29% for Samsung. That’s less than a point difference, but it’s no mean feat when OnePlus is a relative newcomer and still considered a niche brand in most parts of the world.
Not surprisingly, the OnePlus 8 series played a large role in the comeback. The design and performance “attracted consumers’ attention,” Counterpoint said, while OnePlus’ ability to cultivate a loyal fan base also helped its chances.

Apple sank to third in the country due to fiercer competition, the researchers said, although it dominated the “ultra-premium” (over Rs 45,000 or $600) segment with 42% share. It also had the most phones in the premium top five. While the OnePlus 8, Vivo V19, and Samsung Galaxy A71 occupied the top three spots, the iPhone SE and iPhone 11 filled out the remaining spots. The iPhone 11 could gain share now that Apple is making the device locally and might lower the price.
Counterpoint stressed that these phones represented just a small sliver of India’s smartphone base. The devices only represented slightly over 4% of the country’s smartphone shipments — the vast majority of customers are buying budget devices. It’s no wonder that OnePlus is aiming at budget buyers with the Nord, then. While it may be happy to rule the premium phone space, it has been ignoring a massive potential audience until now.

Nvidia reportedly could reach deal to acquire ARM within weeks
Last week it came to light that SoftBank may be trying to sell chipset design firm ARM, and according to a new report from Bloomberg, Nvidia could be interested. Citing the usual "people with knowledge," Nvidia has apparently approached ARM to court a deal with the Cambridge company.
Nothing has been confirmed, and it remains to be seen if ARM is even interested in Nvidia's offer, but it's one possible avenue for the company.

OPPO today launched the global version of the Reno 4 Pro in India, alongside the global version of the OPPO Watch.
The smartwatch features a 1.91-inch dual-curved display with 402 x 476 resolution and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. It runs on the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset and is claimed to provide up to 36 hours of battery life on a single charge. OPPO has been priced the 41mm version of the watch at ₹14,990 ($200), while the 46mm version will cost ₹19,990 ($267). The smartwatch will be going on sale in India from August 10. The 46mm version of the OPPO Watch comes in Black and Glossy Gold colors, while the 41mm version will be offered in Silver Mist, Black, and Pink Gold.
OPPO has priced the Reno 4 Pro at ₹34,990 ($468) in the country, which makes it more expensive than the top-end 12GB/256GB version of the OnePlus Nord. The phone will be available to purchase in India from August via Flipkart. OPPO will only be offering two color options at launch: Starry Night and Silky White.
The Reno 4 Pro has a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and curved edges. It has a single hole-punch cutout on the top-left corner, housing a 32MP selfie camera. The phone is powered by an 8nm Snapdragon 720G chipset, which is paired with up 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage.
The quad-camera array on the back of the Reno 4 Pro includes a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP monochrome sensor. Keeping the lights on is a 4,000mAh battery with support for 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging. OPPO claims it takes just 36 minutes for the Reno 4 Pro to be fully charged. On the software front, the Reno 4 Pro runs OPPO's ColorOS 7.2, which is based on Android 10.

A phone, believed to be the Redmi K30 Ultra, has made an appearance on TENAA. While not mentioned by name, similarities can be drawn between previous leaks and the info provided here.
Spotted by 91Mobiles, the certification lists a phone that looks pretty similar to the other K30 variants. The red tell-tale power button, present on other K30 models, is also clear to see in the front and rear shot.
These images point to a rounded camera array at the rear, housing four snappers. Earlier reports hinted at a 64MP Sony IMX686 main camera, but the listing does not confirm this. There’s no indication of a notch up front which suggests the return of the pop-up selfie camera we saw on the Redmi K30 Pro. It’s not clear if the 20MP sensor on the K30 Pro will be used here too.

TENAA has also spilled the phone’s specifications. For starters, expect a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 2,400 x 1,080 resolution. The large device is also packing a fair amount of weight at 213 grams, but that does also include a battery rated at 4,400mAh.
There’s no listing of a specific chipset model but earlier rumors pointed to the 5G-enabled Mediatek Dimensity 1000. The listed CPU clock of 2.6GHz and 5G network bands also adds credence to this theory. Redmi could offer two RAM configurations with this phone at 6GB and 8GB. There are also two storage options listed, namely 128GB and 512GB. 91Mobiles does believe the phone could also be offered with a 256GB storage option and up to 12GB of RAM too.
It’s not clear when the Redmi K30 Ultra will launch or how much it’ll cost, but we wouldn’t be too surprised if it’s priced within the range of the K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom Edition at around 2,999 yuan (~$429) to 3,799 yuan (~$543).

When should you expect to receive the Android 10 update? (Updated July 31)
Officially called Android 10, the next major version of Android launched September 3, 2019. The Android 10 update began rolling out to all Pixel phones, including the original Pixel and Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL.

1. Essential Android 10 update
September 3, 2019: On Twitter, Essential announced Android 10 is now rolling out to the Essential Phone. The company noted the update is rolling out “for select open market customers.” Android 10 should be available for all Essential Phone owners in the coming days.
2. OnePlus Android 10 update
September 3, 2019: On the same day as the official Android 10 launch, OnePlus announced an Android 10 open beta for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. This is not a stable release, but a good first step towards hitting that ETA we mentioned above. More details here.
September 4, 2019: OnePlus has announced that the OnePlus 6 and 6T will get Android 10 by the end of this month. The company also released open beta builds for the two phones, which are “meant to prepare your devices for the Android 10 update” — learn more here.
September 18, 2019: OnePlus has released the second Android 10 open beta update for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro. The update appears to mostly involve bug fixes and small design tweaks — learn more here.
September 21, 2019: Great news for all you OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro owners out there. The company is now rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to both devices.
October 2, 2019: Around two weeks ago, OnePlus started rolling out the Android 10 update for the OnePlus 7 series. However, according to users on Reddit as well as the official OnePlus forums, many people still don’t have the update. OnePlus did say the Android 10 upgrade would be a slow rollout, but that usually means over the span of a few days. At this point, it’s been 12 days since OnePlus announced the launch, which suggests there’s been some sort of delay. It’s possible OnePlus halted the rollout entirely. Read the full story here.
October 10, 2019: OnePlus has announced that every OnePlus device from the OnePlus 5 forward will get a stable version of Android 10. Older devices will need to wait quite a while to get it, but the update will come. The OnePlus 6 and 6T will get the beta update by the end of October 2019, while the stable variant will be rolled out a month later. The OnePlus 5 and 5T should receive the stable update in the second quarter of 2020.
October 14, 2019: OnePlus is rolling out Android 10 to the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro — for real this time. In a community post, the Chinese brand confirmed that “version 10.0 was paused due to certain bugs” and that Oxygen 10.0.1 is now rolling out. October 21, 2019: The Android 10 Open Beta build is now rolling out to the OnePlus 6 and 6T — learn more here. The stable version of the update is expected to hit the devices in November.
October 29, 2019: OnePlus 7 Pro 5G users will need to wait quite a bit to get the Android 10 update. The company’s global community manager said the update is expected to be released sometime in Q1 2020.
November 4, 2019: OnePlus is now rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the OnePlus 6 and 6T. The update should reach users widely over the next few days.
November 12, 2019: Pete Lau has explained on the company’s forum why OnePlus 7 Pro 5G users have to wait until Q1 to get the Android 10 update. The executive said that 5G “uses a different communications module to establish a faster connection as opposed to 4G, and requires a deeper level of understanding and more rigorous tests, debugging and optimizations to be done to our software and hardware.” He also added that “to achieve the best experience possible, we had to make system optimizations from the fundamental system architecture, in order to deliver a truly fantastic 5G experience.” It looks like the process is a lot more complicated and time-consuming than it may look, which is why users will have to wait a few months for the update. November 15, 2019: The Android 10 update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T has been halted due to various bugs. OnePlus said it’s “working on a new build with more issue fixing.” The company didn’t specify when the update will roll out globally, only saying it’ll be available “once it’s ready.”
November 25, 2019: OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 10 update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T is almost ready and will start rolling out again soon. Right now, it is awaiting CTS approval. If all goes smoothly, users should expect the update next week.
December 5, 2019: As promised, OnePlus has started rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the OnePlus 6 and 6T again.
December 30, 2019: T-Mobile is finally rolling out the Android 10 update to the OnePlus 7 Pro.
February 14, 2020: T-Mobile variants of the OnePlus 6T are now finally receiving the stable Android 10. The update comes in at around 1.6GB.
March 3, 2020: The long-awaited Android 10 update for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is now finally rolling out, coming in at over 2GB — learn more here.
March 23, 2020: Looks like Sprint has finally released the stable version of Android 10 for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.
April 27, 2020: OnePlus has announced that OnePlus 5 and 5T users can download a beta version of Oxygen OS version 10.0 based on Android 10. There’s no word on when the stable version of the update will be ready, but we imagine we won’t have to wait long — learn more here.
May 1, 2020: OnePlus has released a new beta update for the OnePlus 5 and 5T that comes with a few bug fixes and tweaks. It also includes the April 2020 Android security patch.
May 20, 2020: OnePlus launched the third Android 10 beta for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, which comes with a few bug fixes and tweaks. There’s still no word on when the stable version will be released.
May 26, 2020: OnePlus is now rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the OnePlus 5 and 5T. The update comes in at around 1.8GB.
3. Samsung Android 10 update
September 17, 2019: Looks like Samsung will soon release its first Android 10 beta update. Rumors have it that the company will roll it out in the US and Europe in early October. There’s no word on which devices will get it, but it’s a good bet we’ll see it on new flagship series such as the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy S10.
October 23, 2019: Samsung has confirmed that the One UI 2.0 beta — based on Android 10 — for the Galaxy Note 10 series will come to the US. The rollout seems to be restricted to the regular Note 10 and Note 10 Plus models, with no mention of the 5G variants. Only unlocked phones will be compatible. In addition to the US, the beta program has also been confirmed for Germany.
November 7, 2019: The third iteration of the One UI 2.0 beta is rolling out now to Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e devices. The latest version of the Android 10-based update is available now to all beta program testers and includes a bunch of bug fixes — learn more here.
November 14, 2019: The beta version of the Android 10 update for the unlocked Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus has apparently been launched in the US. Users can sign up for the update via the Samsung Members app.
November 18, 2019: Samsung is rolling out its second Android 10 beta to Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus devices. The new One UI 2.0 beta carries the software version N97*FXXU1ZSK8 and has apparently been spotted on Note 10 devices in India. The same update will likely hit devices in the US, Germany, and South Korea soon.
November 20, 2019: Samsung is shipping out the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 beta to the Galaxy Note 9 in South Korea. This bodes well for a release in other markets, as Samsung doesn’t usually take its time to bring a One UI 2.0 beta to other regions. So we’re expecting a US and European roll-out in the coming days.
November 21, 2019: Samsung is pushing out the sixth beta update to the Galaxy S10 family. The update is apparently being rolled out to all countries where the Galaxy S10 beta is available — learn more here.
November 27, 2019: Samsung Israel has revealed the Android 10 roadmap for a few Samsung devices. You can check it out below, but keep in mind that the updates may ship out sooner or later in other markets.

November 28, 2019: It looks like Samsung is ahead of schedule, as the company has reportedly pushed out the stable Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update to the Galaxy S10 phones. The update is only rolling out in Germany for now but is expected to make its way to other markets soon.
November 29, 2019: Samsung UK and India have revealed their Android 10 update roadmaps, which are a little bit different than the one shared by Samsung Israel a few days ago. Samsung’s 2 018 and 2019 flagships will get updated to Android 10-based One UI 2.0 in January 2020 in both countries. This differs from the Israeli roadmap, which shows that the Galaxy S9 series will only get the update in April 2020, while the other 2018 and 2019 flagships get it in January.
The Indian roadmap also gives us update details regarding the Galaxy M series, noting that the Galaxy M20 and M30 will receive the Android 10 update in January 2020. Other M-series phones slated to get the update are the Galaxy M40 (March 2020), Galaxy M30s (April 2020), and Galaxy M10s (May 2020).
December 3, 2019: After being released in Germany a week ago, the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update for the Galaxy S10 phones is now rolling out in a bunch of other countries. These include Algeria, Bangladesh, France, India, Ireland, Poland, Russia, Spain, the UAE, and the UK, among others.
December 10, 2019: SamMobile reports that the Galaxy S10 5G is now getting the stable version of Android 10 with One UI 2.0 on top in South Korea. The update is expected to reach other markets soon.
December 11, 2019: Samsung is rolling out Android 10 beta updates to the Galaxy S9, S9 Plus, and Note 9 in the US, according to SamMobile. Those interested in trying them out can sign up via the Samsung Members app.

July 14, 2020: According to XDA-Developers, Samsung is rolling out Android 10 to the Galaxy J8, but only in Russia for now. Additionally, the Galaxy Tab 10.5 is also getting the Android 10 update in a number of markets.
July 21, 2020: Sprint is rolling out Android 10 to the affordable Galaxy A20 phones.
July 29, 2020: It’s taken a while, but T-Mobile has now joined Sprint in rolling out Android 10 and One UI 2.0 to the Galaxy A20.
4. Nokia Android 10 update
September 27, 2019: HMD Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas confirmed on Twitter that the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 1 Plus, and Nokia 1 will all receive the Android 10 (Go Edition) update. However, it’s going to take some time before the update reaches the phones — lean more here.
October 9, 2019: Android 10 is now rolling out to the Nokia 8.1. The news was announced by Juho Sarvikas via his Twitter account.
October 14, 2019: Android 10 beta builds for Nokia phones have leaked. These include the Nokia 6.1, 6.1 Plus, 7 Plus, and Nokia 7.1. They are internal builds, which means they are definitely not designed for public use. Although there are straightforward instructions on how to flash one of these Android 10 Nokia beta builds to your device — learn more here — we’d advise against doing so if you use that phone as your daily driver. Anyway, if the beta builds have popped up online, the stable versions should be released relatively soon.

5. Huawei/Honor Android 10 update
September 9, 2019: At IFA 2019, Huawei revealed its roadmap for the EMUI 10 update, which is based on Android 10. Huawei will first roll out the latest version of Android to the P30 and P30 Pro in November. The update will then make its way to the Mate 20 phones as well as the Honor 20 and View 20 a month later. The P30 Lite, P20 series, and Mate 10 series will get the update in March 2020, while the rest of supported Huawei/Honor phones will receive it sometime in Q2 next year.
October 22, 2019: Huawei has announced that the beta version of Android 10 is ready for the Honor 20, 20 Pro, and View 20. The company is looking for users to test it in Germany — there are 400 seats available. Those interested can enroll in the beta program via the company’s Beta-test app.
November 13, 2019: According to a few users on Reddit, the Chinese variant of the Huawei P30 Pro is receiving the Android 10 update. The problem is that one Redditor claims the 4.99GB update left him without the ability to use the Google Play Store. We don’t know how many users will encounter this issue, but we expect it will be isolated to Chinese variants of Huawei’s devices. For now, there’s no word on when the update will reach other markets, but we likely won’t have to wait much longer.
November 14, 2019: The stable Android 10 update is rolling out to the P30 and P30 Pro in Europe. The update comes in at over 4GB.
November 15, 2019: Huawei is now shipping out the stable version of the Android 10 update to a number of devices in China, according to HuaweiCentral. These include the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Huawei Mate 20 RS, Mate 20 X 4G, Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, Honor V20, and the Honor Magic 2.
November 16, 2019: HuaweiCentral reports that Honor is rolling out the stable version of Magic UI 3.0 based on Android 10 globally to the Honor 20, 20 Pro, and V20.
November 18, 2019: Great news for Huawei Nova 5T owners. HuaweiCentral reports that the phone is now receiving the stable version of EMUI 10 based on Android 10 globally. The update comes in at around 4.5GB.
November 21, 2019: Honor has kicked off the EMUI 10 internal beta registrations for the Honor 10, Honor V10, Honor 8X, and Huawei Nova 4 owners in China, according to HuaweiCentral. This may mean the program will launch in other regions soon.
November 22, 2019: The Honor 10 Lite and Honor 20i are now receiving EMUI 10 beta based on Android 10 in India.
November 26, 2019: Honor is beta-testing the Android 10-based update on Honor 8X devices in India. Those interested in testing out the new features can sign up here.
November 27, 2019: During the View 30 launch event in China, Honor announced that the next phones in line to get the Android 10-based Magic UI 3.0 update are Honor 10, Honor V10, Honor 8X, Honor 9X, Honor 9X Pro, Honor 20s, and Honor 20 Lite. Note that this was a China-specific announcement and that Honor has not revealed its global Android 10 update plans yet. Still, it’s likely that the global variants of these phones will also get the update.
December 2, 2019: According to HuaweiCentral, Vodafone is rolling out the stable Android 10 updates to the Huawei P30 and Mate 20 series devices in several countries, including UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands and more.
December 18, 2019: Huawei is rolling out EMUI 10 based on Android 10 to 14 of its smartphones in China. Here’s the list:

This means that the global rollouts for the devices above should happen in the near future, although Huawei hasn’t shared the exact timelines yet.
January 20, 2020: Huawei shared an updated EMUI 10 roadmap, revealing that it will roll it out to the P30 Pro, P30, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20, Mate 20 X, and Nova 5T sometime this month. Other phones will follow in the months to come — learn more here.
March 11, 2020: According to Android Police, the stable version of Android 10 is expected to hit the Honor 20, 20 Pro, View 20, and 9X on March 15.
March 17, 2020: According to HuaweiCentral, the stable version of Android 10 with EMUI 10 on top is rolling out to the foldable Mate X.
May 28, 2020: According to XDA-Developers, Huawei is finally rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the P20 and Mate 10 globally. The updates come in at around 4.5GB each.
6. Xiaomi Android 10 update
September 3, 2019: Surprisingly, Xiaomi is already rolling out Android 10 to the Redmi K20 Pro. According to XDA-Developers’ Mishaal Rahman, the update is only available in China. That said, K20 Pro owners around the world should expect to get Android 10 very soon.
September 12, 2019: Looks like the Android 10 update for the Xiaomi Mi 9T (also known as the Redmi K20) is just around the corner. Xiaomi told AusDroid that it plans on rolling it out in October.
September 24, 2019: According to users of Xiaomi’s Mi Community forum, the stable version of Android 10 is rolling out to Redmi K20 Pro devices in India.
September 30, 2019: According to a Xiaomi support representative (via PiunikaWeb), the Android 10 update will start rolling out to the Mi A2 Lite in the UK next week.
January 3, 2020: The stable version of Android 10 is now rolling out to the Xiaomi Mi 9T as well as the Redmi K20. These two devices are essentially the same, but the Redmi device is more focused on developing markets such as India and China while the Mi 9T is marketed in places such as Europe.
January 8, 2020: Xiaomi is shipping out the stable version of Android 10 to the Xiaomi Mi 8. The update comes in at 1.9GB and includes the December security patch.
January 8, 2020: The stable version of Android 10 is rolling out to the Redmi Note 8 Pro in China. The update is expected to hit the global variants of the phone soon.
January 11, 2020: Xiaomi is rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the Xiaomi Mi A2, according to XDA-Developers. The update comes in at 1.3GB.
January 14, 2020: Xiaomi India has confirmed on Twitter that it will release the stable Android 10 update for the Mi A3 devices in mid-February.
January 16, 2020: Tme.net reports that Xiaomi is rolling out the stable version of Android 10 with MIUI 11 on top to the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s. The update is only available in China for now but should make its way to other regions soon.
January 21, 2020: Xiaomi is rolling out the stable version of MIUI 11 based on Android 10 to the Pocophone F1.

February 29, 2020: According to XDA-Developers, Android 10 is rolling out to the Redmi Note 8 Pro. For now, the update is available in certain European countries and Russia, but it’s expected to expand to more markets soon.
March 2, 2020: Just a few days after releasing it, Xiaomi has stopped the rollout of Android 10 for the Mi A3 due to various bugs. This was confirmed by a Xiaomi representative in an email sent to a user who then shared the response on Twitter.

March 7, 2020: According to one of Xiaomi’s support agents (via Piunika Web), the Android 10 update may begin rolling out to the Mi A3 again by the end of this month.
March 9, 2020: Xiaomi started rolling out Android 10 to the Mi A2 Lite, but users quickly made it aware that the update is full of bugs and can even brick your phone. You can learn more here.

April 14, 2020: Xiaomi has released a new Android 10 update for the Mi A2 Lite that hopefully won’t brick your phone like the last one did.
April 28, 2020: Xiaomi has started rolling out Android 10 to the Black Shark 2 gaming phone. A limited number of users will get the update first before it rolls out to everyone starting May 6. The update will also start hitting the Black Shark Pro devices starting April 30.
May 5, 2020: Xiaomi is shipping out Android 10 to Mi A3 devices in Europe.
May 7, 2020: Xiaomi is rolling out what is calls a Global Beta Stable to the Mi Note 10 devices. It’s not a stable release, but it is close to it. Better than nothing, I guess.
May 28, 2020: Xiaomi has released the global stable Android 10 update for the Mi Note 10 and 10 Pro.
June 29, 2020: The Redmi 8 has received a stable Android 10 update in China, with global availability presumably following shortly. This isn’t a MIUI 12 update though.
June 30, 2020: Got a Redmi 7A in India? PiunikaWeb reports that stable Android 10 is currently rolling out to you.
July 28, 2020: Redmi 8A users in China are reportedly getting stable Android 10 right now. Hopefully global users aren’t far behind.
7. Motorola Android 10 update
November 5, 2019: According to Android Police, the beta version of Android 10 is rolling out to Motorola One Power users enrolled in the Motorola Feedback Network. Unfortunately, there’s no word on which countries the update is available in.
December 10, 2019: Motorola is rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the Motorola One Power. It’s a staged rollout that should be completed by January 10, 2020.
January 6, 2020: The stable version of Android 10 is now hitting the Motorola One Vision in Brazil and should make it to all the handsets in the country by February 6. The update is expected to reach other markets soon.
January 10, 2020: Motorola is shipping out the stable version of Android 10 to One Action devices in Brazil. We expect to see the update reach other markets soon.
January 22, 2020: According to Tudocelular, Motorola is rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the Moto G7 Plus in Brazil. The update is expected to reach Europe, the US, and other markets soon.
March 11, 2020: According to users on Reddit, the Moto Z4 is now receiving the Android 10 update.
March 25, 2020: Android 10 is rolling out to the Motorola One, but only in Brazil for now. The update is expected to reach other markets soon.
April 1, 2020: According to users on Reddit, Verizon variants of the Moto Z4 are receiving Android 10.
May 11, 2020: Motorola is scheduled to start rolling out Android 10 to the Moto Razr in “mid-May” — learn more here.
May 12, 2020: Motorola has started rolling out Android 10 to the Moto G7 in Brazil. The update is expected to reach other markets soon.
June 8, 2020: According to XDA-Developers, the Moto G7 Power is receiving the stable Android 10. The update is currently rolling out in Brazil and is expected to make its way to other markets soon.
June 17, 2020: According to a Reddit user, Motorola has released Android 10 for the Moto G7 Play. However, the update is only available in Brazil for now.
July 3, 2020: A Redditor has reported that the Moto G7 Play in Canada has now received the Android 10 update.
July 20, 2020: It looks like Motorola is rolling out Android 10 to the Moto G8 Plus, but only in Brazil and Spain for now. The update is expected to hit other markets soon.
8. Sony Android 10 update
November 15, 2019: Sony finally announced which of its devices would get the Android 10 update and when. The Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 devices will receive the update in December before the rest of Sony’s devices. Xperia 10, 10 Plus, XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium, and XZ3 owners can expect the update to begin rolling out to their devices sometime in early 2020, but timing and availability will vary depending on the user’s market and carrier.
December 5, 2019: Sony is rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the Xperia 1 and 5 globally, according to PiunikaWeb.
January 6, 2020: XDA-Developers reports that Sony has released the stable Android 10 update for the Xperia XZ3, XZ2, XZ2 Compact, and XZ2 Premium phones.
May 8, 2020: Users on Russian forum 4PDA report that the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus are receiving Android 10. The update is expected to reach other markets soon.
9. LG Android 10 update
October 15, 2019: LG has announced the start of the Android 10 public preview program in its home country of South Korea. The company plans to release the official update by the end of the year. The tech giant hasn’t committed to an international release date yet, but it looks like we can expect the Android 10 update to come to the West in early 2020. Until then, the first device to get the preview is LG’s G8 ThinQ, followed by the V50 ThinQ next month.
November 1, 2019: LG announced that it will start rolling out the Android 10 update to the LG G8 ThinQ by the end of this year.
December 2, 2019: LG is apparently rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the G8 ThinQ in South Korea. The update includes the November 2019 Android security patch.
December 17, 2019: According to multiple users on Twitter, Android 10 is now rolling out to the LG G7 One.
January 16, 2020: XDA-Developers reports that LG is rolling out the stable Android 10 to the LG V50 ThinQ in South Korea. The update will likely make it to other markets soon.
January 20, 2020: Android 10 is rolling out to the LG G8 ThinQ in the US. The update is currently hitting Verizon and Sprint variants of the phone and is expected to reach other carriers soon.
January 24, 2020: LG has released its Android 10 roadmap, revealing which devices will get the latest version of Android and when. Here’s the list:
- February 2020 — LG V50 ThinQ
- Q2 2020 — LG G8X ThinQ
- Q3 2020 — LG G7 ThinQ, LG G8S ThinQ, and LG V40 ThinQ
- Q4 2020 — LG K40S, LG K50, LG K50S, and LG Q60
The roadmap revealed is for Italy, but we expect that the timeline above will apply globally as well.

10. HTC Android 10 update
March 11, 2020: According to PiunikaWeb, HTC is rolling out Android 10 to the HTC U11 Life.
11. Asus Android 10 update
October 22, 2019: According to PiunikaWeb, Asus is rolling out the open beta Android 10 update to the Zenfone 5Z. The update comes with the new ZenUI 6 on top.
November 5, 2019: Asus is rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the Zenfone 6 in the US and India.
November 5, 2019: XDA-Developers report that Asus has released the Android 10 kernel source code for the Zenfone 6/6Z.
November 7, 2019: The EU variant of the Zenfone 6 is now receiving Android 10.
November 9, 2019: Asus has kicked off the Android 10 beta program for the ROG Phone 2 and is looking for testers. To apply, one must own a ROG Phone 2 (obviously), share the device’s IMEI and serial numbers, and be an active member of the ZenTalk forums. Those interested can sign up here.
November 27, 2019: Asus is rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the ZenFone 5Z.
March 9, 2020: The ROG Phone 2 is now finally receiving the stable version of Android 10.
April 23, 2020: Asus is rolling out Android 10 to the ZenFone Max M2 (ZB633KL).
12. Oppo Android 10 update
October 2, 2019: Oppo has released the beta version of Android 10 for the Oppo Reno, according to GizChina. The update is only available in China for now.
October 23, 2019: Oppo has announced that it will roll out what seems like a beta update of the Android 10 to a limited number of Oppo Reno devices in India. The update will then also expand to Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia by the end of this month.
May 10, 2020: Oppo is shipping out the stable Android 10 with ColorOS 7 on top to the Oppo Reno 2F.
June 12, 2020: According to BGR, Oppo is rolling out Android 10 with ColorOS 7 on top to the Oppo F9 and F9 Pro.
June 16, 2020: Android 10 is now rolling out to the Oppo A5 (2020) and A9 (2020).
June 24, 2020: Oppo is shipping out Android 10 with ColorOS 7 on top to Oppo F7 devices.
Juy 10, 2020: Oppo has released the Android 10 update with ColorOS 7 on top for the Oppo R15.
July 24, 2020: The ColorOS 7 update atop Android 10 is now coming to the Oppo F15 and A91. The manufacturer says the update is coming to users in India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri-Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Malay, Vietnam, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
13. Vivo Android 10 update
April 15, 2020: According to GSMArena, Vivo is rolling out Android 10 to the NEX 3 5G.
June 9, 2020: Looks like Vivo is now rolling out Android 10 to the Z1 Pro and Z1x in India.
14. Realme Android 10 update
September 13, 2019: Realme has revealed its Android 10 roadmap. The company will first roll out Android 10 to the Realme 3 Pro, Realme 5 Pro, Realme X, and Realme XT in Q1 2020. The update will then make its way to the Realme 3, 3i, and 5 in Q2, and to the Realme 2 Pro in Q3.
October 28, 2019: Realme has revealed its Android 10 roadmap for a few more devices. The Realme X Lite and Realme Q will get it in the first quarter of next year, while the Realme X2 and X2 Pro should receive it in Q2 2020. Keep in mind that these time frames only apply to Chinese versions of the phones. However, we expect the updates to make it to other markets a few weeks after being released in China.
November 26, 2019: Oppo has revealed its Android 10 roadmap. The latest version of Google’s OS will hit a number of the company’s handsets. You can check out exactly which ones and when below:

May 31, 2020: Realme is rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the Realme 5, 5i, and 5s in India.
June 23, 2020: As promised, Realme has started rolling out Android 10 to the Realme 2 Pro.
15. ZTE Android 10 update
January 16, 2020: XDA-Developers reports that ZTE is rolling out the stable version of Android 10 to the Axon 10 Pro in Europe.
January 29, 2020: The Android 10 update for the ZTE Axon 10 Pro is available in the US, but you’ll have to sideload it. You can download it here and then follow instructions on ZTE’s website to install it.
16. TCL Android 10 update
January 26, 2020: According to TechValue, TCL is rolling out the Android 10 update to its Plex smartphone. In addition to all the usual Android 10 goodies, the update also weirdly includes the Modern Combat Rebel Guns game. Fortunately, it can be deleted from the phone.
