Lines of communication might be cut, although with any luck cellular networks will remain up and running. As usual in the case of a natural disaster, the four major carriers are offering those in the path of Dorian some breaks as far as their wireless service is concerned. In addition, the wireless providers are bringing their mobile cellular assets into affected areas in an attempt to keep cellular service ...

And it equipped the phone with a tall and wide display with an aspect ratio of 21:9.

Back in May, even before the Xperia 1 was released, the Xperia 2 ...

The best Metro by T-Mobile deals (August 2019)

metro by t mobile logo

Metro by T-Mobile is the no-contract subsidiary of T-Mobile that was previously known as MetroPCS. Whatever name it uses, it has some excellent deals on both plans and phones if you want to same some money, and we have the best current deals you can get from the carrier.

Metro by T-Mobile deals – Two unlimited lines for $80 a month

metro by t mobile unlimited deal

The first Metro by T-Mobile deal will let you get two lines, all with unlimited high-speed data, for just $80 a month. That’s with taxes and fees included.

The plan also lets users access up to 15GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data, plus 100GB of cloud storage via Google One. Finally, it throws in a free subscription to Amazon Prime, which on its own normally costs $12.99 a month. Unfortunately, the Amazon Prime offer is for new customers, not current users. This plan also requires signing up for at least one new line of service.

This is easily one of the best Metro deals, but there are some strings.  Users may experience slower speeds in congested locations if they use more than 35GB of data before their billing period ends. Also, video streaming is limited to 480p resolution with this plan.

Metro by T-Mobile Deals – Get two Samsung Galaxy A20 phones for “free”

Samsung Galaxy A20

Another Metro deal lets you get the two Samsung Galaxy A20 smartphones, which are normally priced at $239.99 each, for free. Here’s how this deal works:

  1. First, purchase one Samsung Galaxy A20 phone from Metro by T-Mobile, and connect that phone to an already existing wireless phone number, and you will get an instant $239.99 rebate. This deal does not work with current T-Mobile numbers or ones that have been active on Metro by T-Mobile in the past 90 days.
  2. Then, buy a second Samsung Galaxy S20 phone and sign up for a new line of service, and Metro by T-Mobile will give you another instant $239.99 rebate. You will still have to pay sales taxes and an activation fee.

The Samsung Galaxy A20 has a 6.4-inch display, an Exynos 7884 processor running at 1.8Ghz, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of onboard storage, with a microSD card for adding additional storage. It also has 13MP and 5MP rear cameras, an 8MP front-facing camera and a 4,000mAh battery.

Metro by T-Mobile deal – get even more phones for “free”

Motorola Moto E6 hands on screen size

Metro by T-Mobile is also offering a way to get other phones for free including the Motorola Moto E6, the Moto G7 Play, the Moto G7 Power, the LG Stylo 5, and the Samsung Galaxy J7 Star. Just port an already existing wireless phone number to the “free” phone of your choice and you will get an instant rebate for the cost of that phone. This deal does not work with current T-Mobile numbers or ones that have been active on Metro by T-Mobile in the past 90 days. You will still need to pay an activation fee and sales taxes for these “free” phones.

Metro by T-Mobile deal – iPhone 7 for $49.99

metro by t mobile iphone deal

Another Metro by T-Mobile deal lets you get an iPhone 7, with 32GB of onboard storage, for just $49.99. Normally the phone costs $449.99. You will need to switch an already existing number over to Metro by T-Mobile to get this deal. It’s also only available at Metro by T-Mobile stores. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch display, along with a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera.

Metro by T-Mobile deal – get a MetroSMART Ride or MetroSMART Hotspot for free

metro by t mobile smartcar

Our final deal offers customers a way to get a MetroSMART Ride online car add-on for free or a MetroSMART stand-alone mobile hot spot for free. You will need to activate a new line of service for each of these devices to get the instant rebate ($109.99 for the MetroSMART Ride device and $79.99 for the MetroSMART hotspot). You will still need to pay sales taxes, activation fees and the first month of service to get these devices for “free”

That’s all we have at the moment in terms of the latest Metro by T-Mobile deals. Of course, if any more deals are announced from the no-contract wireless carrier, we will update this post with those details.

Skype introduces new draft, bookmarks, and media preview features on mobile and desktop

Skype used to be the go-to messaging app several years ago until it got gradually dethroned by competitors like WhatsApp and Messenger. However, Microsoft has been working on making its software more appealing lately, thanks to new features such as SMS messaging and screen sharing. The company is continuing to improve the app, as it's gaining new abilities, including the option to save drafts, bookmark messages, and preview media.

The first one is so basic I'm surprised it's just been released: We've all started writing a long message and left the app for some reason, only to realize it's gone before we got a chance to send it.

Part backpack, part suitcase the best duffel bags for traveling

Duffel bags are great! You can pack them with pretty much anything for a long work trip with the boss or a weekend escape with your best buds. What I like about them is that they sit somewhere between a backpack and a suitcase, which makes them incredibly versatile in any situation. When it comes to choosing the best duffel bag out there, WANDRD's Hexad Access Travel Duffel steps up as the best choice overall. With ample storage, a padded laptop sleeve, stowaway backpack straps, internal dividers, and easy access, it is the perfect travel duffel.

Best Overall: WANDRD Hexad Access Travel Duffel

WANDRD's Hexad Access Travel Duffel Bag is the best duffel bag out there, and nothing else can compare. It was designed for any traveler and has unique storage compartments inside and out. There are compartments for literally everything: shoes, computer, keys, clothes, cameras (more on that later), and anything else you want to pack into this 45L duffel bag. The Hexad has two slots built into the side of the bag designed to house two separately sold camera cube inserts. This is great if you are a photographer and own two cameras. But if you're not, you can use the slots for whatever else you want.

The Hexad Access is ready for action. You can carry it like a traditional duffel bag, but you can also wear it like a backpack using the stowaway shoulder straps. There's an exciting cutout design in the straps to ensure that the part where your arms and chest meet are comfortable, which is a remarkable little detail. Additionally, you can use the load lifting handles that are built into the side of the duffel bag.

Everything about the WANDRD Hexad Access Travel Duffel Bag is beautifully engineered. From its innovative design and overall weather-resistance to its ample storage and clamshell opening, this pack was made by experienced travelers who understand the importance of a great duffel bag.

Pros:

  • Lots of storage
  • Clamshell opening gives you full access
  • Expandable laundry pocket
  • Internal mesh dividers
  • Cutout shoulder straps for comfort
  • Padded laptop sleeve

Cons:

  • Looks sloppy when not fully packed
  • Costly

Best Overall

WANDRD Hexad Access Travel Duffel Bag

The duffel bag you've always wanted

WANDRD understands the needs of a modern traveler, and this bag is proof. No other duffel bag comes close.

Best Large: Patagonia Black Hole 70L

Patagonia's Black Hole line comes in multiple sizes and options; however, their 70L duffel bag is the perfect size for traveling. The outside of the bag is made out of a recycled polyester nylon fabric called ripstop, a woven material that prevents tearing. The bag isn't waterproof, but it is highly weather-resistant in case you're caught in the rain. An outside pocket allows easy access to charging cables, a passport, or your mobile device.

Getting to your things inside the bag is easy. A U-shaped lid makes the opening nice and wide, giving you easy access to all of your clothes and items. There are two mesh pockets built into the lid help you keep track of smaller items. You get easy access with a quick zip and flip. Also, this bag is built to keep your things safe and sound. The base of the bag is nicely padded, so don't have to worry about accidental drops.

A big part of what makes this duffel awesome is that there are multiple ways that you can carry it. You can hold it like a traditional duffel bag using one hand, or you could throw it over your shoulder using the padded shoulder strap. If the bag is pretty heavy, you can use the padded shoulder straps and strap it on your back. If it's really loaded, you can have someone help you by each of you using the load haul straps on the side of the bag, or you can carry the bag with two hands.

Pros:

  • U-shaped lid
  • Multiple carry options
  • Two mesh pockets are easily accessible
  • Water-resistant
  • Made out of recycled materials

Cons:

  • Not padded
  • Not a lot of pockets

Best Large

Patagonia Black Hole 70L

70L's is more than enough

Patagonia's Black Hole duffel has tons of room for all of your belongings, and it's super tough. A must if you travel.

Best Small: Backcountry All Around 40L

The Backcountry duffel bag is well designed tough duffel bag that is also very functional and visually appealing. It's great for short pack trips, and at 40L, you can get a lot into this bag.

Shoulder straps that you can easily add or remove come in handy when the bag is tightly packed and on the heavier side. It gives the option to switch it from a duffel bag to a backpack. Side handles located at both sides of the bag make it easy to carry with two arms.

When it comes to storage, the bag also has two well placed, and perfectly sized pockets that are very easy to access simply by flipping the top lid of the bag. Its smaller size makes it very convenient as a carry-on when flying and stows away nicely in the overhead compartments. Unfortunately, its lack of padding means your expensive tech could get damaged.

Overall, it's a great choice if you are looking for a duffel bag that is simple in design and ready for any short pack trip.

Pros:

  • Wet/dry compartments
  • Simple design
  • Very comfortable as a backpack

Cons:

  • Not padded

Best Small

Backcountry All Around 40L

Perfect for short trips

Very durable and great for those long weekend getaways or a quick overnight work trip. The wet/dry compartment is fantastic.

Best Value: Samsonite Andante Wheeled Duffel

Samsonite has been a long-time leader in the travel industry with its line of suitcases, backpacks, and bags. Their Andante wheeled duffel bag carries the quality you'd expect from Samsonite but at an affordable price. Multiple handles let you easily grab the duffel bag from a variety of points for various carrying options. The large U-shaped opening makes packing and finding belongings a breeze.

Large wheels at the base of the duffel bag will make running through busy airport terminals or down crowded streets a breeze. The sturdy handle at the top of the bag can take the abuse of all types of travel. One thing to note is that this wheeled duffel bag can be a bit bulky for some travelers.

While the Andante does have plenty of internal storage, it only has one outer pocket which can fill up fast. Still, it's a great option at an affordable price.

Pros:

  • Excellent price
  • Lots of storage
  • Very durable

Cons:

  • A little bulky
  • Only one outer pocket

Best Value

Samsonite Andante Wheeled Duffel

Great value from Samsonite

The Samsonite Andante duffel offers a lot of charm, storage, and durability. It also comes at an excellent price.

Best Lightweight: Osprey Ultralight Stuff Duffel

The Osprey's Ultralight Stuff is a super lightweight duffel bag that is as simple as they come. Made out of nylon ripstop, the UL Stuff can handle all of your basic day-to-day needs at a meager price, and it's not bulky. When not in use, the duffel bag can be folded down into its own pocket.

The comfy padded shoulder straps help when you need to throw your bag over your shoulder. Plus, the bag's zipper is quick and won't get stuck during those moments when you need to get into the bag right away.

The focus here is simplicity and lightweight, which Osprey has nailed. This bag is great for a quick run to the supermarket or if you want to bring some extra clothes or a hoodie with you during the evening out with your friends. Unfortunately, a lack of any padding makes this duffel a poor choice for carrying your computer to the coffee shop.

It also comes with a great warranty. The company will repair any damaged or defective bag free of charge. It doesn't matter when it was purchased, and if they can't fix it, they will replace it.

Pros:

  • Very lightweight
  • Awesome price
  • Simple design
  • Great warranty

Cons:

  • Not great for tech
  • It's on the smaller side
  • Not weather-proof

Best Wheeled: Thule Crossover Rolling Duffel 56L

Thule makes excellent travel gear, and their Crossover rolling duffel sits at the top of their class as the best duffel bag on wheels. The aluminum hardware is incredibly sturdy and able to withstand the abuse of travel. The water-resistant fabrics make the bag look really slick and keeps your items nice and dry.

The Thule Crossover is no doubt a durable duffel bag. A tough exoskeleton ensures that it can handle lots of rugged travel. It also has two large compartments for ultimate storage. It has two removable, and lockable crushproof SafeZone compartments on the outside of the duffel bag keep your fragile gear well protected.

Hardware-wise, the Crossover has nice oversized wheels so you won't get hung up on cracks or any gaps on sidewalks. The telescoping handle pulls out nice and smooth with a simple click of a button on the side of the handle. You can carry the Crossover like a duffel bag using the straps on the front of the bag, and even wear it like a backpack. Though, as a backpack, it's very uncomfortable and not recommended.

Pros:

  • Rugged exoskeleton
  • Oversized wheels
  • Lot's of room
  • Looks awesome

Cons:

  • Pricey
  • Limited warranty
  • Getting into overhead airplane compartments can be tricky

Best Wheeled

Thule Crossover Rolling Duffel 56L

Tough with lots of storage

Two big storage compartments on the inside and two lockable crushproof compartments on the outside make the Crossover the top pick.

Best Waterproof: YETI Panga 50

Yeti's Panga 50 is something beyond the traditional duffel bag. Right off the bat, the first thing to mention is that this duffel bag is 100% waterproof. You could throw this bag into the water, and all of the items inside of the bag will stay completely dry.

On top of that, the bag's shell is high-density nylon that makes it puncture and abrasion-resistant, and being able to take on the harshest abuse you can dish out. The big padded base can handle any top of drop, which means the items packed into the duffel bag are safe and sound. The Panga's big padded shoulder straps let you wear this bag like a backpack comfortably if the bag gets too heavy.

The Metallock hardware that is part of the bags strap system can take on the abuse of any travel. Plus, the dry haul straps placed at various parts of the bag are super durable and allow you to strap on extra gear on the outside.

Pros:

  • Airtight closure makes sure the bag stays waterproof
  • Puncture and abrasion-resistant
  • Lots of storage space

Cons:

  • Premium price
  • Only comes in gray

Best Waterproof

YETI Panga 50

Perfect for the outdoors

Perfect for an adventure into the wilderness, a weekend getaway, or a work trip. It's super tough for any situation and 100% waterproof.

Best Gym: adidas Defender II Duffel Bag

The Adidas Defender II duffel bag offers a lot of room for all of your gym clothes, sneakers, and safety gear. A very stylish design with two pockets located at each end of the bag for items such as your keys or wallet, the Defender II also has a big U-shaped lid with an excellent zipper for smooth opening and closing.

The single shoulder strap has a comfortable pad that is easily adjustable to your size to ensure that the weight inside of the bag is evenly centered over your shoulder.

The Defender II offers up a lot of storage. You could easily fit a basketball, racquetball gear, boxing gloves, towel, a change of clothes, or whatever else you need for the gym. Unfortunately, it does lack proper venting. So, don't forget to empty your bag after your workout.

The Thomtery Canvas Travel Duffel has all the perks of style and storage but without being too bulky. It's the perfect choice for a carry on duffel bag during a quick weekend getaway or a mid-week work trip.

There are plenty of pockets conveniently located on the outside of the duffel bag that you can use for your wallet, mobile phone, and any snacks you may have purchased for your flight. Separate storage space for your shoes located at the end of the bag, which makes it easy to slip into your slippers during your trip, and because of its size, the duffel bag doesn't take up much room. You can easily tuck the bag under the seat in front of you or stow it in the overhead compartment.

Stowaway shoulder straps mean you can quickly throw the duffel bag onto your back and walk through the airport with ease.

Pros:

  • Lots of pockets
  • Fits nicely under the plane seat
  • Shoe compartment

Cons:

  • Comes in gray

Best Carry On

Thomtery Canvas Travel Duffel

The perfect carry on duffel

The Thomtery Canvas Travel Duffel fits nicely under the seat on the plane and offers a lot of storage for all of your mid-flight items.

Best College: Gonex 40L Duffel

The Gonex 40L is a great duffel bag for any college student. Two pockets on the outside of the bag plus plenty of internal storage for clothes and any other items will allow your students to easily travel back and forth to their home between semesters or during school breaks, or whatever destination they may be heading.

The Gonex's water repellent material will make sure their items don't get soaked in case they get caught in the rain or happen to spill liquids on their bag during their travels. When not in use it folds up nicely and can be tucked away in a closet or dorm dresser. Which is great for storage, but it also means the duffel bag doesn't offer any protective padding.

This bag might not last all four years of college, but at just over 20 bucks, it's a great bag for getting your students back and forth.

Pros:

  • Very lightweight
  • Folds up nicely
  • Great for college life
  • Lots of colors
  • Comes in multiple sizes

Cons:

  • No padding
  • Not built to last

Best College

Gonex 40L Duffel

Perfect for any college student

The Gonex 40L Duffel is a great duffel bag for your college student. If you need more space, the bag comes in multiple sizes up to 100L!

Bottom line

There are a lot of duffel bag options out there. Just do a quick internet search or jump on social media, and you'll find a lot of bags to choose from. However, WANDRD nails it with their Hexan Access Travel Duffel. This bag really reinvents the duffel without overdoing it in a way that embraces the balance of a backpack and a suitcase.

The Access Travel offers so much more than other duffels out there when it comes to storage, design, and overall looks. The large clamshell lid to give you easy access to everything inside of the bag, and the outer pockets offer you plenty of creative ways to bring everything you need; whether you are commuting to work, traveling for fun, on a business trip, or just going to your local coffee shop to do some work. This duffel bag is a dream and perfect for any situation.

What's the best Ring security system?

Best answer: We recommend Ring's 8-piece Alarm Security Kit for most homes. It includes multiple contact and motion detectors to cover most entry points of the home, and you can get it all for a reasonable price.

Cover all your main doors and points of entry

When shopping for a home security system, you always start with one consideration: the layout of your home. How many doors do you have? How many windows? How much outside ground do you want to monitor? These are essential questions to answer because they will give you an idea of how much equipment you will need for proper coverage. The trick is to get as close as possible to the number of sensors you need without spending too much. If you can get close to the number of items you need in the same bundle, you will save yourself a good chunk of money.

Most average homes have two main points of entry and several windows on the bottom floor. If this is you and you are shopping for a Ring Alarm Security kit, the 8-piece configuration should be enough to get you started.

With this configuration, you get three contact sensors, which are the devices you put on doors to be notified whenever they're opened. This is the perfect number, as you will get enough sensors to cover the front door and backdoor, as well as a third for a patio door or one of your primary windows.

The 8-piece kit also comes with two motion detectors, enough to cover a couple of the main rooms in your home. Where you can't install a motion detector, you can choose to cover a window or door on that part of the house with a contact sensor.

All Ring Alarm Security kits also come standard with a base station, a keypad, and a range extender. You can also use any of them on any of Ring's Protect Plans. It should be noted, however, that while Ring's subscription plans offer you features like video recording and alerts, they can also add more to the overall price tag.

Finally, if you are an Amazon Alexa user, then you can connect your Ring security system to the Alexa Guard service. Alexa Guard is a free service from Amazon that lets you leverage the listening abilities of your existing Echo devices to enhance your home security. When connected to Alexa Guard, you can ask the Amazon smart assistant to arm/disarm your Ring security system. Alexa can also push security alerts to Ring emergency responders through the Ring app if you have a Ring Protect Plan.

You can always add more pieces later

If you've bought one of Ring's Alarm Security Kits and come to the conclusion that you need more, don't fret. You can buy individual pieces of equipment to fill out your home. Ring offers extra contact sensors, motion detectors, keypads, and range extenders on an individual basis.

You can also get a number of extras such as an alarm sound amplifier, as well as add other pieces of equipment from the Ring family such as smoke and CO alarms, flood and freeze sensors, security doorbells, and security cameras. Smart lighting systems will also be available soon. Be sure to explore all of your options over at Ring's website.

How to reset your 'direct share' targets on Android after Messages hijacks them

Sharing on Android has seen its ups and downs. Once one of the most powerful features of the platform, it became sluggish, inconsistent, and riddled with issues. Android Q was supposed to fix the speed problem, and even if it did (which I honestly can't tell anymore), it implemented a few other unwanted changes. Pinning apps on top is no longer possible, which means you're at the mercy of the algorithm for your direct share targets.

10 best cheap gaming laptops to buy in 2019

cheap gaming laptops

Great gaming laptops don’t have to be expensive. Whether you have a tight budget or you just can’t bear to spend thousands of dollars, there are a plethora of budget gaming laptops that will suit your needs. We created a list of ten of the best cheap gaming laptops to check out this year.

Best cheap gaming laptops:

Editor’s Note: Each device comes in under $1,000, features a 15.6-inch display, and is listed in no particular order. We’ll add more cheap gaming laptops to this list as new machines are launches.

1. HP Omen 15

HP Omen 15 cheap gaming laptop

The Micro Center variant of the HP Omen 15 is definitely one of the best budget gaming laptops you can buy. The Omen 15 was already an amazing laptop, but for less than $1,000, this thing is a steal.

It sports a 15.6-inch 1080p 60Hz display, Intel’s ninth-generation i7 CPU, and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU. The RAM and storage are upgradable, but this model comes with 16GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, and a 1TB HDD.

The Omen 15 was already an amazing laptop, but for less than $1,000, this thing is a steal.

Like all of the devices on this list, the battery life isn’t amazing, but the 70WHr battery makes it one of the better options. It also features plenty of ports, including an HDMI port, an audio jack, a mini display port, an ethernet port, three USB-A 3.1 ports, one USB-C Thunderbolt 3 compatible port, and an SD card reader.

It also features Bang & Olufsen speakers, so sans-headphones media consumption is pleasurable, which is more than a lot of the competition can say. Needless to say, if you are in the market for a budget gaming laptop, then you need to check out Micro Center’s HP Omen 15.

2. HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop

HP Pavillion 15

The next budget gaming laptop we have on this list is another offering from HP. This time we have the HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop. HP punches well above its weight with this device coming in at just under $670.

For that money, you get a 15.6-inch 1080p 60Hz display, Intel’s eighth-generation i5 CPU, and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU. You also get a USB-C port (not Thunderbolt 3), three USB-A 3.1 ports, an HDMI port, an ethernet port, and an audio jack.

HP punches well above its weight with this device.

The laptop has 8GB of RAM and a 1TB HDD, both of which are upgradable. The 52WHr battery isn’t terrible, but it definitely leaves something to be desired. But, when you step back and look at the whole picture, you realize you are definitely getting your money’s worth with the HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop.

It’s sturdy, the green accents aren’t overwhelming, and like the previously mentioned HP Omen 15, this budget gaming laptop rocks Bang & Olufsen speakers. You should definitely consider the HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop when you go shopping for your next gaming laptop.

3. Asus TUF FX505

ASUS TUF FX 505

Like the last two budget gaming laptops, the Asus TUF FX505 features a 15.6-inch 1080p display. But, instead of a 60Hz display, Asus managed to add a 120Hz display into this $900 machine, giving it quite the competitive advantage. Asus also added an ethernet port, an HDMI port, one 2.0 and two 3.0 USB-A ports, and an audio jack.

The FX505 has quite the competitive advantage.

Instead of an Intel CPU, Asus added the AMD Ryzen 7 3750h CPU to this device. Alongside that, they threw in Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1650 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 512GB NVMe SSD. Thankfully, the RAM and storage are upgradable, but 8GB of RAM is just fine for gaming.

You get quite a bit for $900 with this device. The only real downside is the battery life. Sometimes, corners need to be cut when manufacturers design budget offerings. The 48WHr battery is definitely the corner Asus decided to cut when the developed the FX505. You will probably just want to leave it plugged in during longer gaming sessions.

Other than that, the device is amazing for what you are paying. It looks good, it has pretty great performance, and you’ll feel right at home on the 120Hz display.

4. MSI GF63 Thin

MSI GF63 Thin budget gaming laptop

MSI is known for being one of the best PC gaming companies in the world. It becomes very apparent why the moment you look at the MSI GF63 Thin. Just by looking at it, you would never guess that it was a budget gaming laptop. It’s sleek, the bezels are incredibly thin (hence the name), and it comes in at an unbelievable $670.

Just by looking at the GF63, you would never guess that it was a budget gaming laptop.

The device features a 15.6-inch 1080p 60Hz matte display, Intel’s eighth-generation i5 CPU, and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1650 GPU. It also has three USB-A 3.0 ports, a USB-C port (not Thunderbolt 3), separate headphone and microphone jacks, an HDMI port, and an ethernet port.

The 51WHr battery is decent, and the device includes 8GB of RAM and a 256GB NVMe SSD out of the box. Though the NVMe SSD is a nice touch, it’s really unfortunate that it’s so small. Thankfully, this is upgradable, and there is an extra 2.5-inch drive bay if you want to add even more storage later. Personally, I would also pick up the Samsung 860 QVO 1TB SSD or something similar. Even with that extra $100, you are still well within budget territory.

5. Lenovo Ideapad L340 Gaming

Lenovo IdeaPad L340 cheap gaming laptop

Sitting just below the $1,000 mark, the Lenovo Ideapad L340 is a budget gaming laptop in disguise. Right off the bat, you will see that unlike most other gaming laptops, the L340 sports blue accents instead of the typical red or green design. Pair that with an appropriately understated chassis, and Lenovo designed a laptop that I would be comfortable bringing to a meeting without everyone thinking that I pwn noobs in Call of Duty.

The Lenovo Ideapad L340 is a budget gaming laptop in disguise.

The L340 features a 15.6-inch 1080p display, Intel’s latest i7 CPU, and Nividia’s GeForce GTX 1650 GPU. The upgradable 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, and 1TB HDD are suitable for most gaming situations, even if the 45WHr battery falls a little short.

The laptop sports an HDMI port, an ethernet port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, an audio jack, and a USB-C port (not Thunderbolt 3). The Lenovo Ideapad L340 is one of the most professional looking budget gaming laptops, even if a little generic. Pair that with the outstanding performance, and you have one of the best budget options for work and play.

6. Acer Predator Helios 300 (2018)

Acer Predator Helios 300 budget gaming laptop

Even though it’s last year’s model, the Acer Predator Helios 300 (2018) is definitely worth considering. This device normally comes in over $1,000, but with the release of the latest model, last year’s variant saw a $300 price drop.

Where this laptop truly shines is with its 144Hz display.

The Helios 300 has already established itself as one of the best bang-for-buck laptops. With an eighth-generation i7 CPU, a GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, and 16 GB of RAM it’s not hard to tell why. But, where this laptop truly shines is with its display.

The display is the typical 15.6-inch 1080p but with a not-so-typical 144Hz refresh rate. Games are buttery smooth, and they load exceptionally fast off of the included 256GB NVMe SSD. The laptop includes an extra easy access 2.5-inch drive bay for expandable storage, and the RAM is also upgradeable.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 (2018) has had one year to prove that it’s one of the best cost to performance laptops you can buy. With the recent price drop, it’s hard to argue that this isn’t one of the best budget gaming laptops you can buy in 2019, even if it is last year’s model.

7. Dell G5

Dell G5 budget gaming laptop

Dell is known for making some outstanding gaming laptops with the Alienware line. But for people that don’t want to spend that much money, Dell offers the G series of laptops, including the G3, G5, and G7. Of these three, we believe the Dell G5 15 is the best sub-$1,000 option.

The design of the G5 is reminiscent of Alienware laptops without the Alienware price-tag.

The G5 includes Intel’s latest i7 processor and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1650. It comes with 8GB of RAM, a 256GB NVMe SSD, and a 1TB HDD out of the box, all of which are upgradeable. The laptop features a pretty decent 60WHr battery and includes an audio jack, an HDMI port, a Thunderbolt 3 compatible USB-C port, three USB 3.1 ports, an SD card reader, and an ethernet port.

The design of the G5 is reminiscent of Alienware laptops without the Alienware price-tag. Though the chassis looks great, where the G5 truly disappoints is the display. It has a 15.6-inch 1080p 60Hz display, but the color accuracy is beyond lacking. Though this is perfectly fine for gaming, don’t pick up the G5 expecting to do professional-level design, photo, or video work.

For those of you that want to save even more money, the G3 is also a pretty good laptop. If you are willing to pay a little more than $1,000, the G7 is great too. But, for the best cost-to-performance ratio, we think the G5 is your best bet.

8. Lenovo Legion Y530

Lenovo Legion Y530 cheap gaming laptop

The Lenovo Legion Y530 and Y730 are hands-down two of the best gaming laptops you can buy. They have some of the thinnest bezels in their category, and the design is both unique and professional. But, no matter how good the Y730 is, we think the Y530 is a better budget option.

The Lenovo Legion Y530 is one of the best-looking gaming laptops on the market.

The Legion Y530 comes with Intel’s eight-generation i7 CPU, Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB HDD. It features an unused NVMe SSD slot, so I would pick one of those up when I get the chance and use the 1TB drive for game storage. It also has a decent selection of ports, including an audio jack, a USB-C port (not Thunderbolt 3), three USB-A 3 ports, an HDMI port, an ethernet port, and a mini display port.

The Y530 has a pretty decent 50 WHr battery, and like the previously mentioned Lenovo L340, the Y530 has a sleek and understated design. Unlike the L340, the Y530 is more refined, even if it embraces the gamer aesthetic a little more.

All-in-all, the Lenovo Legion Y530 is one of the best-looking gaming laptops on the market. It doesn’t try to be something it’s not, and it knocks performance out of the park at its price point.

9. Acer Nitro 5

Acer Nitro 5

Acer’s latest Nitro 5 and Nitro 7 are both respectable mid-tear gaming machines. Though I think the Nitro 7 is a solid laptop, it comes in over the $1,000 mark, and the Nitro 5 offers better cost-to-performance at its price point.

The Acer Nitro 5 is a great budget-friendly laptop.

It features a 15.6-inch 1080p display, an eighth-generation i5 CPU, and a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU. It comes preconfigured with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, but it features extra 2.5-inch and NVMe drive slots for expandable storage, giving it three drive slots in total. The Nitro 5 also features an HDMI port, three USB-A ports, a USB-C port (not Thunderbolt 3), an SD card reader, an audio jack, and an ethernet port.

The slightly upgraded Acer Nitro 7 features an all-metal chassis compared to the Nitro 5’s plastic body. The Nitro 7 also has a far more color accurate screen than the Nitro 5, making it a better choice for people who want to use it for content creation as well.

If you want to spend a little more than $1,000, then the Acer Nitro 7 is a great option. But for those of you that don’t mind the lower-quality screen and plastic build, then the Acer Nitro 5 is a great budget-friendly laptop.

10. Asus ROG Strix G

ASUS ROG STRIX cheap gaming laptop

The Asus ROG Strix G is the laptop that surprised me the most on this list. It’s slim, full of features, and it isn’t lacking in performance.

The ROG Strix G is one of the single best budget gaming laptops you can buy.

At just under $1,000, the ROG Strix G features a 15.6-inch 1080p 120Hz display, an upgrade from the typical 60Hz displays. It comes with the latest Intel i5 CPU, a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU, and 8GB of RAM. It features a 512GB NVMe SSD and extra 2.5-inch drive slot for upgradability.

This laptop also features three USB-A 3.1 ports, a USB-C port (not Thunderbolt 3), an HDMI port, an ethernet port, and an audio jack. It also comes with a solid RGB keyboard and RGB light strip surrounding the base. Like so many budget gaming laptops that come before it, the ROG Strix G seems to fall short in battery life. Though it features a 66WHr battery, it doesn’t last nearly as long as you would expect, but it’s still better than a lot of the competition.

Looking at the Asus ROG Strix G, it’s really hard not to recommend it. It’s one of the single best budget gaming laptops you can buy, and in many cases, it’s better than several of it’s more expensive competitors.

Why you should consider open-box gaming laptops

Dell Alienware m15 2019 - at angle 2

Another option is to pick-up a device with an open-box. When customers return products or when display models get taken down, retailers usually sell them at discounted prices. Companies like Best Buy, Micro Center, and Newegg have a selection of open-box and refurbished devices that often get sold for hundreds of dollars off the sticker price.

Sometimes you may have to physically pick these options up in-store or they may have some minor wear and tear. But, if you keep your eye out, a well-placed deal can save you even more off of your budget gaming laptop or even land you something more expensive for budget prices.

That’s it for our list of the best cheap gaming laptops to pick-up in 2019. We’ll add more laptops to this list as new hardware comes to market.
